Minutes for July Meeting were read and approved as amended. Motion by Melissa Boyd, Second by Jim McCarty. Motion carried. Treasurer’s report was presented by Earle Hammond: Checking account balance of $17,913.00; Building Fund Balance or $7,297.79; Savings Account balance of $5,333.70. President Damon Smith reported that he had received a check from southwest Electric for $150 to be used for the 50th Anniversary Celebration. The Membership report was given by Gary Neely. Phone calls have been made
to all members who have not renewed their membership at this time. After discussion
it was decided to return to the membership application we used in the past.
Businesses have until the end of August to sign up to be included in the 2012
Vacation Guide. FALL FESTIVAL Melissa Boyd reported she has 10 reservations for the September 24th Fall Festival. We will have a Bounce House and Kiddy Train for the kids. Additional letters have been sent out as a reminder about the event. Ads will be placed in The Index now and just before the event. Approval to use the court House lawn has been received. Melissa is asking to have the street closed for the Kiddy Train. Melissa asked for volunteers to help at the Chamber Booth. VACATION GUIDE Earle Hammond Karolyn Dunning reported that the Guide is 95% completed.
The cut-off date for businesses to be included in the 2012 Vacation Guide
is August 31. 50th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION Damon, Melissa, Jeannie, and Jim reported on the ideas generated at the
Corps of Engineer meeting for the celebration. Twenty-two Not-For-Profit booths
have signed up so far. Shirts are for sale at various businesses to help fund
the Celebration. OTHER We received a Thank You card from the Scholarship Recipient. President Damon Smith asked Earle Hammond to pick up a new vacuum for the office. A motion was made by Jim McCarty to sponsor the Friends of the Library Gold tournament for $150. Second by Melissa Boyd. Motion approved. Motion was made to sponsor the Hickory County Community Improvement Foundation for $100 by Melissa Boyd. Second by Jim McCarty. Motion approved. Mike Turpin the new Administrator at the Christian Health Care was welcomed to the community. Motion to adjourn, seconded and approved 7:56 p.m. Mabel Davis
